Year 2 2024 - 2025

Miss Joshi

Welcome Year Two's class page.

In year two this year we have Mrs Campbell to support with learning.

Topic

This Autumn term, our focus revolves around the theme "Oh, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside," where we will explore the UK's seaside towns through geographical studies. We’ll engage in map work, learning about the coastal features and locations that make these areas unique. Simultaneously, in the realm of science, our attention will shift to investigating different materials, their properties, and how they are used in everyday life. Reading Books

Reading is a crucial element in fostering your child's educational growth. While we will maintain our daily Guided Reading sessions at school, your involvement at home is extremely valuable. Your child will be provided with a reading book and a reading record to take home. Additionally, all children will receive a phonics book, which will be updated on a weekly basis. This phonics book will align with your child's current phonics proficiency and should be a celebration of their independent reading achievements. We strongly encourage you to make nightly reading sessions a regular practice to help maintain your child's reading proficiency. Kindly remind your children to place their completed books in the designated "red box" so that we can replace them as frequently as possible.

PE

Our PE sessions are on a Thursday and Friday, but we aim to get outside and active as much as possible throughout the week. Therefore, please ensure your child has a fully labelled kit in school all week, should any changes in the timetable occur. Earrings must be removed on PE days. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, they should come to school with their ears taped on PE days.

Homework

Homework is now set in a homework book. Homework is due in on a Wednesday ready to be marked and handed back out on a Friday. We also set maths Key Instant Recall Facts (KIRFs) to practise and learn at home as well as at in school these will be uploaded to our class page each term.

Spellings

Children in Year Two have a weekly spelling test. The ten spellings will be sent home on a Friday and the test will be on the following Friday. It is not necessary to bring the completed sheet back into school, this is purely for your child to practise their spellings at home.
